One more day until our July community litter cleanup, and one more Plastic Free July tip: Reducing your plastic use doesn't just cut down on waste, it can also help reduce litter in our community. About half of all litter is dropped accidentally or blown by the wind. Once plastic ends up on the ground, it doesn't decompose like organic materials or paper. That's one reason plastic is the most common type of litter found in communities across the country, according to the 2026 National Litter Study. Every reusable bag, water bottle, or food container is one less piece of plastic that could become litter.
